MAYA UNIVERSE ACADEMY
BYAS, TANAHUN DISTRICT (NEPAL)
VOLUNTEER PROJECT RECONSTRUCTION OF NEPAL 2016
Nepal is the second poorest country outside Africa after Afganistan, especially after the earthquakes of 2015 that caused more than 7000 deaths and destroyed many houses and temples.
MAYA UNIVERSE ACADEMY runs three schools in Nepal, two in Tanahun district and one in Udaipur district. These three schools are the only private schools that offer free education for the students in Nepal.
How it is possible that a private school offers free education for the students?.
The way they work is very simple, parents of the children work for the school twice per month instead of paying the school fees. They can choose working in construction, agriculture or making handicrafts that will be sold in foreign countries.
In summer 2016, I had the opportunity of leading one of the construction teams in the school located near Damauli in Tanahun district, 32 Km far from Gorkha, the epicenter of the earthquakes.
The school is located in one of the poorest rural regions in Nepal, so the access to dinkable water and electricity is scarce . My task was to design some facilities for the school that were destroyed by the earthquake, considering the materials that we could get and the shortage of water and electricity.
Most of the electricity in Nepal is produced by hidropower, so during the dry season its common not to have electricity during 10 hours a day, so the challenge was how to provide drinkable water to these bathrooms and do it considering the lack of electricity.
I went there to help those kids to have a better education and to have better possibilities in their lifes, but I think I learnt more from them and how useless are some things that we consider essentials nowadays.
I also realised that there are so many good things to do in Nepal and in the world, we just need to get up and take an iniciative to change this, but this time not with guns and grenades, but with education, with books, pens and students
LOCATION

1-CONNECTION OF THE SYSTEM:
The drinkable water that will be used comes from the waterfall that is near the school, which water is really pure.
It is far from where the bathrooms will be built, so we need to provide a water pump to transport the water and a water tank to storage it.
2-ELECTRIC GENERATOR:
It produces electricity for the pump when it is needed.
It uses petrol to produce electricity.
3- WATER PUMP:
To fill in the tank till it will be full. It will run with electricity normally, only if the tank is empty and there is no electricity it will run with the electric generator.
It transport water from the river to the tank, which is in a high place.
4- WATER TANK::
In this tank the water will be stored. Due to the lack of electricity all time,we need to have water when the pump is not working.
The capacity of the tank is 300 liters, and it is located in a high place.
5- SEPTIC TANK:
The dimensions of the tank are 5x1x1,5m, and the walls are covered with stones to avoid slides in the walls of the tank.
All the appliances are connected to the septic tank, because there is any sewer infrastructure in the area.
6- GARBAGE STORAGE:
The problem of not having a sewer system is what to do with the fecal water till they will be decomposed.
This tank is to storage them when the septic tank will be cleaned till they will be decomposed...
